The new BenData series provides memory flexibility for Dime-II systems.

Nallatech's new BenData series provides memory flexibility for Dime-II systems Nallatech is now shipping the new BenData Virtex-II Dime-II single module in two versions

The BenData-DD with high-capacity local DDR SDRAM memory, and the BenData-WS, which offers wide-memory bandwidth ZBT SRAM memory for data storage and processing.

Both have been designed to enable computationally intensive algorithms such as image processing and computational fluid dynamics applications to be implemented on the flexible Dime-II platform.

The BenData-DD is the first Dime-II module to offer up to 1Gbyte of local memory storage.

Four banks of DDR SDRAM which can be selected independently allows large amounts of real-time data to be stored at high speed in a local environment that is completely independent of the host interface.

"By offering the highest density of memory per chip at the fastest speed, the BenData-DD means that systems designers do not have to rely upon host memory for large storage requirements", said Dave Bird, Senior Systems Engineer at Nallatech's Bristol office, "and it answers our customers' need for faster speed and more local memory on a single module.

It's a case of small is beautiful for system designers".

The BenData-WS accommodates six banks of ZBT SRAM, each with an independent 64bit databus, to give exceptionally high memory bandwidth of 7.97Gbyte/s for a single BenData-WS.

Furthermore, with 24Mbyte of memory tightly coupled to the Virtex-II FPGA, this high density Dime-II module provides ultrafast local memory within a Dime-II system.

For example, four BenData-WS modules on a Dime-II cPCI card such as the BenERA, allows data to be accessed at over 30Gbyte/s in a local environment that is completely independent of the PCIbus.

Both BenData modules are fully compatible with Nallatech's Fuse software, which provides system configuration and control functionality, along with seamless communication between FPGA applications and the host.

Fuse offers a number of interfaces including Dimescript, Fuse Integrated Development Environment and the Fuse development APIs for C/C.
