The Xilinx Real-PCI Express design kit is an industry first providing an ideal development platform for customers building products based on high-performance PCI Express technology.

The Xilinx Real-PCI Express design kit is an industry first providing an ideal development platform for customers building products for the communications, computing, storage, graphics, gaming and embedded markets based on high-performance PCI Express technology A part of the Xilinx Serial Tsunami initiative to provide comprehensive serial design solutions, the design kit uses the proven Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs with 3.125Gbit/s RocketIO transceivers and includes the Xilinx LogiCore PCI Express core and Nallatech PCI Express prototyping board

"Providing complete, easy-to-use design solutions, is a crucial part of our strategy for bringing high-speed serial connectivity to our broad customer base.

The new Xilinx design kit offers a flexible and powerful platform to develop high-bandwidth serial PCI Express designs today, well ahead of ASIC-based implementations", said Ron DiGiuseppe, Senior Manager of IP Solutions Marketing at Xilinx.

"By collaborating with a system specialist like Nallatech, we are able to help our customers quickly transition their designs from PCI to PCI Express".

"Nallatech is pleased to have the opportunity to once again provide another high performance design kit to Xilinx, demonstrating our gigabit I/O expertise.

The kit gives customers immediate access to the latest high speed serial technology utilising leading edge Xilinx RocketIO technology and provides users the fastest and easiest migration path from PCI to PCI Express", said Charlie Cump, Nallatech Vice President of Business Development, North America.

The Xilinx PCI Express core is protocol and electrically compatible to the v1.0 base PCI Express specification.

Designers can use the interface to maximise performance and feature quality for high-performance workstations and consumer gaming devices.

The industry-leading PCI Express solution includes the physical layer, data link layer and transaction layer functionality enabling the development of complete end point products.

The core reaches a 2.5Gbit/s line speed using the features of the Virtex-II Pro Rocket IO multi-gigabit transceivers such as clock data recovery, 8B/10B encoding, 3.125Gbit/s serdes, transmit/receive FIFOs and CRC.

Customers can use the core to design high-performance PCI Express systems using Xilinx Smart-IPT technology to meet critical 2.5GHz timing requirements.

The PCI Express core is one of many connectivity cores offered through the Xilinx LogiCore solution.

The Nallatech PCI Express prototyping board is a PCI motherboard with a single Dime-II module hosting a XC2VP20 Virtex-II Pro device providing a PCI Express connection over an InfiniBand cable.

Up to 4Mbyte of ZBT SRAM is offered in two independent banks.

Connection to the PC is made either by 32bit/33MHz PCI or USB.

Software and firmware is provided to support PCI Express.

Nallatech's plug-and-play Fuse software is included, providing easy control, communication and configuration of the FPGA and provides APIs into popular design tools.

Reference designs are included.

The Real-PCI Express design kit (DO-DI-PCIEXP-DK) contains a fully tested, preverified Xilinx LogiCore PCI Express x1 IP core, a PCI Express prototyping board with a Virtex-II Pro XC2VP20 FPGA, PCI Express reference designs and expert support services and is available now for $29,000.
