Work on the FPGA system development for Northrop Grumman aligns with Nallatech's focus on US defence and aerospace markets.

As part of the $2.1 million contract, performed over a one-year period, Nallatech's field application engineers and technical specialists supported Northrop Grumman Space Technology systems engineers in creating an FPGA platform that provided the ideal testbed for their satellite applications.

The system was built around multiple cPCI cards and chassis, with a custom I/O card providing a total of 16Gbit/s of bandwidth between units.

The application uses Nallatech's BenERA, BenData-II, BenData-WS, BenBlue-II and BenPro hardware products to provide specific amounts of processing through Xilinx FPGAs as well as extensive memory capability.

The architecture was designed to make the FPGA the main processing engine.

"Our collaboration with Northrop Grumman is another example of the ever-increasing demand for high-performance FPGA computing solutions in the US defence market", said Ed Hennessy, VP North American Operations, Nallatech.

"It also demonstrates that the rapid development and iteration benefits of FPGA technologies are delivering significant advantage to the US military and aerospace sectors".
