The National Semiconductor Geode SC3200 processor is at the core of the new Net Display Module S10LP-NG from Philips Components.
The module, consisting of Internet-enabled technology integrated within an LCD panel, provides OEMs with a complete hardware solution for Internet access device development.
The Net Display Module from Philips can enable a vast array of products, from personal access devices to public information displays, kiosks and thin clients.
The module is composed of an LCD with added functionality such as an integrated touch screen and system board for Internet access, which supports an extremely thin and light form factor.
It also comes with software drivers for the operating system of choice.
From the module, the customer then creates its own industrial design and high level software.
"We have entered an image-centric era where displays have become our human interface for an ever-increasing number of everyday activities", said Amir Shademan, director of marketing for the Web Displays Group at Philips Components.
"With our experience as a leader in developing display technology and National's leadership in information appliance technology, we have developed a product that will open the door for OEMs to endless, new display product possibilities".
The Geode SC3200 delivers powerful, easy-to-use multimedia technology by integrating graphics, audio, memory control, core logic and PCI interface on a single chip.
The processor's x86 architecture supports popular software plug-in modules for the Internet, allowing consumers to maximise their Internet experience.
Requiring only additional off-chip memory and a communications subsystem, the Geode SC3200 processor provides all of the functionality needed to create a small form factor wireless WebPAD device with low power consumption.
In all, National provides the majority of the silicon that makes up the Philips' S10LP-NG Net Display Module.
Along with the Geode SC3200 processor at the heart of the system, it contains many industry-leading analogue parts that provide prolonged battery life and enhanced performance, including power management and audio ICs and operational amplifiers.
