New from National Semiconductor, the LM4811 Boomer audio amplifier is a 105mW stereo headphone amplifier for use in 3 and 5V systems requiring a headphone output and volume control National's LM4811 is ideal for cellular phones, PDAs, MP3, DVD and CD players, Internet appliances and notebook computers

"The LM4811 takes efficiency to the next level by offering the convenience of integrated up/down digital volume control in 16 discrete steps with 3dB step increments", said Thomas Eikenberg, Marketing Engineering at National's audio amplifier product group in Europe.

"National listened to customers' needs and responded with the highly customised LM4811, providing customers with a unique product in a very small leadless leadframe package (LLP) which allows 70% board space savings over competitive solutions".

Expanding National's Boomer portfolio, the LM4811 features a pushbutton up/down volume control without the high costs related to a software solution.

It sets an amplifier's gain from +12 to -33dB in 16 discrete steps using a two-wire interface.

Additionally, the amplifier provides 60dB at 217Hz power supply rejection ratio, which is ideal for GSM cellular phone applications.

The LM4811 also includes click and pop circuitry, and delivers 40mW of power at 3.3V into 16ohm and less than 1% THD.

The LM4811 is available now in 10-pin LLP and MSOP packaging.
