All-in Bluetooth enables wireless camera

Concord Camera Corp has selected National Semiconductor's embedded Bluetooth wireless networking technology for its new Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless digital camera.

Concord Camera Corp has selected National Semiconductor's embedded Bluetooth wireless networking technology for its new Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless digital camera.

Bluetooth technology is a networking standard that enables point-to-point transfer of data wirelessly, allowing camera users to send photo files to their laptops or printers without any wires.

The Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless digital camera incorporates National Semiconductor's CP3BH19SB Bluetooth wireless personal area network (WPAN) module.

"The CP3BH19SB module's small size and RF integration make it easy to design into a connected camera, and its low voltage and advanced power-saving modes preserve battery life and increase the time that consumers can use the camera", said Pat Sullivan, Operations Director for National's Device Connectivity Division.

"The Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless is one of the first digital cameras with Bluetooth functionality available on the market today", said Gerald Angeli, Vice President, Engineering and Technology, of Concord.

"National made it easy for us to design Bluetooth functionality into our digital camera by having a fully embedded Bluetooth host protocol stack and software on one chip.

This reduced our development time and allowed us to get this product to consumers quickly".

The Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless is a 2Mpixel digital camera with a 4x digital zoom, intuitive user interface and sophisticated flash controls for easy, accurate picture taking.

The camera will be packaged with a Bluetooth adapter that will allow consumers to communicate with their existing PCs, which may not have Bluetooth capability.

The Concord Eye-Q Go Wireless is expected to be available in retail stores in the third calendar quarter of 2003.
