ClearSpeech voice technology software is now available as an embedded toolkit for LabView.

Cambridge technology company NCT today announced that it is providing its ClearSpeech voice technology software as an embedded toolkit for the widely acclaimed National Instruments LabView This new technology provides engineers designing communication systems the performance and productivity of graphical programming for applications such as mobile phones, radio systems, intercoms, hands-free kits and voice recognition systems

The NI LabView embedded module for ADI Blackfin processors extends the LabView graphical dataflow development environment to directly target high-performance, low-power Blackfin Processors for faster embedded system development.

Engineers using LabView now have the added ability to utilise NCT's noise cancellation, voice communication, echo cancellation and speech enhancement solutions, when developing communication systems.

NCT is converting its ClearSpeech noise and voice echo reduction technologies to LabView building blocks for the Blackfin processor.

As building blocks compatible with LabView, it will become easier for design engineers to evaluate and integrate NCT's noise and echo cancellation technology into their high-quality communication products, thus reducing development costs and accelerating time to market.

"NCT's support for LabView Embedded for the Blackfin should open up the power of digital signal processing technology to an entirely new sector of engineering", said Dr Gillian Davis, Managing Director at NCT.

"The simplicity of LabView will enable a broader range of engineers to benefit from the signal processing power of the Blackfin and the technology of noise cancellation, echo cancellation and voice enhancement".

NCT, a member of The Collaborative, Analog Devices' third-party programme for embedded processing and DSP applications, has ported its ClearSpeech noise and echo cancellation technology to the ADSP-BF533 Blackfin processor.

NCT's ClearSpeech for Blackfin is available as object code libraries.

Currently available is a 16kHz sampling rate noise and echo cancellation library that is particularly suited for wideband, high-voice-quality, and hands-free telephony applications.

The library requires 16Kbyte of instruction memory and 36Kbyte of data memory, and it runs at 125MIPS, providing four user-selectable echo cancellation parameter sets and up to 18dB of noise reduction.

Also available is an 8kHz sampling rate noise reduction library that is designed to enhance the performance of radio communication systems used in noisy environments.

Requiring only 7Kbyte of instruction memory, 10Kbyte of data memory and 15 MIPS, this library provides up to 18dB of noise reduction and the option of selecting NCT's intelligent squelch filter (ISF) or NCT's speech in noise detector (SND) to further enhance audio performance.

To evaluate NCT's ClearSpeech products for Blackfin processors, NCT provides comprehensive user instructions and executables (*.dxe) that run on the Blackfin EZ-Kit Lite evaluation board.
