NCT will explain how to enhance the performance of voice recognition systems at a key industry conference to be held at the Embedded Systems Show.

NCT will present a technical paper explaining how to enhance the performance of voice recognition systems at a key industry conference to be held at the Embedded Systems Show in Birmingham on 11th October 2006.

NCT is a world leader in the field of noise cancellation, echo cancellation and signal enhancement for communication systems.

Their technology is used in millions of hands-free car systems and 3G mobile phones around the world as well as such diverse applications as motor racing radio systems and "drive-through" food retail systems.

The voice recognition technical paper is to be presented by Rishi Nag, NCT's Senior DSP Software Engineer.

The paper will explain how conventional noise and echo cancellation software, as used to improve human to human communications system performance, simply does not work for human to machine communication.

Indeed, this software can corrupt the voice signal and provide additional challenges for a voice recognition system.

This paper will discuss how voice recognition systems work and go on to explain why human to machine communication needs a very different approach when processing the received voice signal for optimum voice recognition performance.

"Voice recognition is very much an emerging technology but even now it's used in mobile phones, conferencing systems and in car telematics systems", said Nag.

"Ensuring the voice recognition unit receives good clear speech is absolutely essential".

"It's easy to see that trying to voice dial a ten digit telephone number may repeatedly fail even at a 90% success rate, so even a 10% performance increase due to the noise reduction software will be the difference between an unsuccessful system and a successful system".

The Embedded Systems Show is a key event in the UK technology development calendar.

It attracts in the region of 2000 industry professionals, providing the chance to meet with vendors to discuss the latest in microprocessors and their associated software and development tools.

Key to this event is the technical conference, whereby leading technology developers share important breakthroughs and discuss the future direction of technology.
