Software squashes extreme background
noise
Software helps Bluetooth headsets and mobile phones to be used in extreme environments such as discos, football matches, motor racing circuits, construction sites and airports.
New software from UK voice technology company NCT will enable Bluetooth headsets and mobile phones to be used in extreme environments such as discos, football matches, motor racing circuits, construction sites and airports NCT's ClearSpeech Xtreme uses a special technique that uses two microphones, one to pick up the speech, the other to pick up ambient noise

Voice recognition enhancement moves to x86
NCT's ClearSpeech voice recognition enhancer technology is now available in fixed point C x86 library format for Windows, Linux and QNX operating systems.
Speech software passes TI compliance tests
NCT has announced that its ClearSpeech acoustic echo cancellation products for hands-free devices have passed Texas Instruments' TMS320 DSP Algorithm Compliance Tests for the C55 architecture.
Using the processing power of a digital signal processor (DSP), the noise is removed from the voice signal, enabling clear speech to be heard at the receiving end of the communication.
NCT are recognised as a world leader in the provision of voice technology.
Their noise reduction, echo cancellation and signal conditioning software is used in millions of 3G phones and hands-free car kits around the world.
Either integrated into audio chips or into customer software applications, NCT's ClearSpeech technologies remove background noise and acoustic echo, to enable human listeners and voice recognition systems to hear the talker with optimum clarity.
"This two microphone solution is an exciting development", said Dr Gillian Davis, Managing Director of NCT.
"It is probably one of the most remarkable products we've developed and commercially it should be attractive to mobile phone developers targeting the youth market as well as industrial applications where there is considerable noise".
"We see ClearSpeech Xtreme being an option that the user can select when required".
The ClearSpeech Xtreme software has been developed for use with Bluetooth headsets and mobile handsets and currently runs on Analog Devices DSPs, TI DSPs and is being ported to the Cambridge Silicon Radio's Bluecore platform.
The technology is also available in fixed and floating point ANSI C code for porting to other platforms as well as general purpose CPUs such as the ARM.
"We have a great team of engineers available to help customers integrate ClearSpeech Xtreme", said Davis.
"Whether it's software coding or even physical design issues, we now have a lot of experience of working with developers to help them get their products to market".
