Serial Flash cuts costs in FPGA applications
NexFlash spiFlash serial Flash memories are now qualified for use with the LatticeECP and LatticeEC field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family.
Serial Flash is ideal match for FPGA applications
NexFlash spiFlash serial Flash memories have been qualified for use with Xilinx's new SpartanT-3E field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family.
These features are especially ideal for designers looking for an easy, cost-effective and efficient way of supporting multiple-language applications.
More and more content continues to migrate to the digital domain due to ease of use, speed of processing and the ability to quickly and easily share this type of data.
Winbond recognised the need for a solution to capture the proliferation of digital data and released its ISD15000 series offering faster programming, address-free recording and simple index-based commands for playback, longer duration and audio-grade record/playback.

Serial devices provide higher-density Flash
Serial Flash memories boast capacities of 16 and 32Mbit in space-saving cost-effective 8-pin SOIC packages.
Serial Flash boasts fastest interface
Quad-SPI architecture allows for greater than six times the performance of the current generation of serial Flash memories and offers a true code-execution alternative to parallel-NOR Flash.
Using this IC, designers are able to create a single platform for their applications.
Customisations, personalisation and multi-language support can then be easily achieved by swapping sound files "on the fly", with minimal time and efforts spent changing the underlying codes and programming.
The ISD15000 significantly enhances the ChipCorder family by offering the same quality that designers have come to expect from the existing ChipCorder products, while providing enhancements made possible by the digital domain.
Key features of this series include: user-selectable durations from 2 to 32 minutes based on 8kHz/4bit ADPCM; digital audio data with sample rate up to 48kHz via I2S or SPI interface; fast digital recording with datarate up to 1Mbit/s; built-in message management; address-free recording; storage of prerecorded audio using high quality digital compression; simple index based commands for playback; preprogrammed macro scripts (voice macros) for device configuration, message sequence playbacks and recordings; and a variety of digital compression algorithms for recording and playback.
The ISD15000 is available in a 48-pin LQFP lead-free package, starting at US $3 in volume quantities.
Evaluation systems are also available, each providing an easy-to-use hardware board and a user-friendly software utility, Voice Prompt Editor (VPE) that allows the developers the ability to edit voice prompts, configure the ISD15000 and download the final voice prompts to the ISD15000 for emulations.
Samples are available now from local Winbond sales offices and its authorised representatives.
