NetTest has added further GPRS network testing features to its Lite 3000 series of handheld network testing instruments for fixed and mobile networks.

NetTest has added further GPRS network testing features to its Lite 3000 series of handheld network testing instruments for fixed and mobile networks, positioning it as the first in its class to offer all-level signalling decoding of the GPRS Abis interface protocol The new release will enable GPRS Abis interface testing on both the Lite 3000E and Lite 3000, making the Lite 3000 series the most complete handheld test solution for the installation and maintenance of GSM and GPRS, with solutions optimised to individual customer needs

The Lite 3000 series is the first in its class to offer all-level signalling decoding of the GPRS Abis interface protocol.

The new GPRS Abis protocol decode option allows network operators to monitor signalling on the GPRS Abis interface during installation as well as live traffic during normal operation.

This will provide essential information for the maintenance and troubleshooting of GPRS networks including derived information from the air interface.

In addition, the Lite 3000E is also capable of handling GPRS Gb interface testing.

"By adding GPRS Abis functionality to the Lite 3000 series, we are now offering the broadest, all-in-one portable solution for the testing of GSM and GPRS networks on the market today", says Thomas Jensen, director of product marketing for NetTest's Network Test Solutions.

"Today, operators face an increasing number of challenges, having to successfully deploy new technologies in their network while at the same maintaining focus on total costs of measurement.

The versatility of the Lite 3000 series and the continuous improvements of its GPRS testing capabilities enables GSM/GPRS operators to be better equipped to meet stringent market demands of decreased meantime to repair and improved downtime levels of the network with minimal deployment resources".

NetTest's Lite 3000 series covers the most comprehensive portable testing solutions available on the market today for the installation, operation and maintenance of transmission lines.

The Lite 3000 series offers products with across-the-board testing capabilities, including frame relay, data and 2Mbit/s transmission lines.

With advanced Abis, SS7 and ISDN signalling analysis capabilities, the Lite 3000 series enables users to measure numerous protocols from one portable platform.

The highlights of the new GPRS Abis features on the Lite 3000 series are: decoding of vendor specific GPRS Abis PCU frames; decoding of assembled LLC level messages; all-level decoding of unencrypted signalling (GMM/SM/SMS); and powerful signalling statistics.

In connection with the new GPRS Abis release, the Lite 3000 has been further enhanced with features previously available only on the Lite 3000E, making the Lite 3000 an even more price-competitive offering.

The Lite 3000 enhancements include: up- and download of setups; names can be assigned to stored measurements; a dedicated display for BERT results; and BER test thresholds for go/no-go indication.

The Lite 3000 and Lite 3000E with GPRS Abis interface testing option are scheduled for delivery in early June 2002.
