Handheld network tester takes jitter onboard

A NetTest product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Sep 27, 2002

NetTest has added jitter test and measurement features to its Lite 3000E handheld network testing instrument for fixed and mobile networks.

NetTest has added jitter test and measurement features to its Lite 3000E handheld network testing instrument for fixed and mobile networks.

Future releases will also include pulse shape measurement.

The new Lite 3000E releases will allow advanced physical layer measurements on 2Mbit/s, making this the most complete handheld test solution for the installation and maintenance of 2Mbit/s transmission lines, with solutions optimised to meet individual customer needs.

With the comprehensive jitter test solution, integrated in the Lite 3000E, the user is allowed to perform an efficient and detailed analysis of the cause of a problem, in case the basic test facilities of the instrument detect transmission errors.

These enhancements follow the successful launch of the versatile Lite 3000E, which is emerging as one of NetTest's most successful field-testing products following a number of landmark deals with major international carriers.

The latest enhancements have been developed in close consultation with existing users of the original Lite 3000E, and reflect specific carrier requirements.

"By adding jitter test functionality and pulse shape measurement to the Lite 3000E, we are now offering the most comprehensive, all-in-one portable solution for the testing of 2Mbit/s transmission systems on the market today", says Thomas Jensen, director of product marketing, NetTest.

"The versatility of the Lite 3000E and the addition of the jitter test and measurement capabilities enables network operators to rapidly pin-point network problems and to improve downtime levels of the network, with a minimum of deployment resources".

The comprehensive array of features of the new option includes: jitter generation and jitter measurement on 2Mbit/s interfaces; test of jitter requirements in accordance with ITU-T recommendations; jitter tolerance testing; and jitter transfer measurement.

Typical applications of the jitter option are: maintenance of 2Mbit/s lines and equipment; jitter tests on PDH ports in case of SDH pointer events; identification of faulty equipment causing jitter; verification of network elements conforming to jitter requirements; and stress test of network elements NetTest's Lite 3000 series covers the most comprehensive portable testing solutions available on the market today for the installation, operation and maintenance of transmission lines.

The Lite 3000 series offers products with across-the-board testing capabilities, including frame relay, data and 2Mbit/s transmission lines.

Other options provide advanced signalling analysis capabilities such as GSM/GPRS, Abis, SS7 and ISDN protocols all from one portable platform.

The Lite 3000E jitter testing option is scheduled for delivery from October 2002.

The Lite 3000E pulse shape measurement option, an addition to the jitter test facility, is scheduled for availability end this year.
