CES demo proves wireless USB interoperability

A Wipro-NewLogic product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jan 9, 2007

Wipro-NewLogic's DRD MAC IP core acts as a wireless USB device as well as a wireless USB embedded host.

This week at CES 2007, Wipro-NewLogic is demonstrating its Dual Role Device (DRD) MAC IP core with the AL4000 WiMedia PHY from Alereon, the ultrawideband (UWB) technology leader for mobile WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB solutions.

Based on Certified Wireless USB technology from the USB Implementers Forum (USBIF), Wipro-NewLogic's DRD MAC IP core acts as a wireless USB device as well as a wireless USB embedded host.

For the demo, one wireless USB setup is configured as embedded host MAC (attached to a PC), the second is configured as a device MAC (attached to a mobile handset).

With this setup images and files are transferred through wireless USB protocol.

The device has been implemented as per Wireless USB Device Test Specification Rev 1.0.

"We have a proven history of standards-compliant IP and we sought out a partner with equally high standards".

"We selected Alereon as our partner because of its technical performance, business synergy and compliance with WiMedia specification", said A Vasudevan, Vice-President, VLSI/Systems, Wipro Technologies.

"Along with the intellectual property (IP) core development, we put a lot of stress on interoperability and use-case testing to ensure first time silicon and product success to our customers".

"This is highlighted by interoperating with leading UWB PHY from Alereon and demonstration of WUSBCV testing".

"Our wireless USB MAC IP offering combined with our services strength will help to strengthen the growing wireless USB ecosystem with ready-to-manufacture intellectual property offerings".

"We are pleased to work with Wipro-NewLogic, and to have our technology demonstrated at CES", said Eric Broockman, founder and CEO of Alereon.

"The AL4000 PHY has been in production for over 6 months, and as such provides a solid platform for Wipro-NewLogic to use for their testing".

"Wipro-NewLogic provides a high level of quality, fully compliant and highly integrated IP solutions, so we anticipate great success with our partnership".

Wipro-NewLogic's Wireless USB DRD MAC is based on its silicon proven WiMedia based MAC.

The same intellectual property core can be used to develop other ultrawideband offerings, including WiNET, Bluetooth over UWB and wireless 1394.

Along with complementary offerings in Bluetooth 2.0 and IEEE1394 IPs, Wipro-NewLogic is ready to support varied ultrawideband requirements of its customers.

Wipro-NewLogic's demonstrations can be seen on Booth 13544 in the WiMedia Techzone in the Central Hall at CES 2007.
