Enclosure marries polyurethane with aluminium

A Norse Precision Castings product story

A minimal footprint and smooth lines were the key considerations in the design of a stylish enclosure for CellMap, Bio-Rad's laser scanning confocal imaging system.

A minimal footprint and smooth lines were the key considerations in the design of a stylish enclosure for CellMap, Bio-Rad's laser scanning confocal imaging system.

It consists of a subtle combination of polyurethane shapes and sand cast aluminium components.

The artistic concept was realised by complex shapes in rigid polyurethane, well within the capability of Norse Precision Castings techniques, and the aluminium meets the heat dissipation requirements.

Eight components in polyurethane and two sand cast in aluminium were needed, and production techniques at Norse Precision Castings, source for both, ensured tight tolerances at the interfaces.

Bio-Rad logos, contoured into the polyurethane, blend in well with the two-tone paint finish to complete the classic design.
