Some optical transmitters like it hot
Intended for use in small form factor optical transceivers, Northlight Optronics' TOSA is a high operating temperature 10Gbit/s transmitter optical subassembly for 40 and 80km applications.
Intended for use in small form factor optical transceivers, Northlight Optronics' TOSA is a high operating temperature (HOT) 10Gbit/s transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) for 40 and 80km applications By running the transmitter chip at higher temperature levels, the power required to the internal thermoelectric cooler is significantly reduced thus enabling high performance with very low power consumption

Receiver optimises optical transceiver design
A new receiver optical subassembly is intended for small form factor transceivers and transponders such as XFP, X2 and Xenpak.
Transmitter aims to boost DWDM transceivers
Suitable for use in long and extended reach applications, the PGT20310 is a cooled transmitter optical subassembly for use in 2.5Gbit/s modulated DWDM compatible transceivers.
The demand for low cost, high performance systems capable of running with low overall power consumption in product areas such as XFP, Xenpak, X2 and 300-pin MSA modules has fuelled the demand for this type of product.
The module incorporates an evolution of Northlight Optronics' well proven 10Gbit/s DFB-EA chip design that has been optimised for operation at higher temperatures (40C) together with a highly efficient micro cooler in the new industry standard cooled TOSA MSA package.
The module is intended for use in 10Gbit/s SDH/STM-64 long haul systems, 10Gbit/s Sonet OC-192 long reach systems and 10Gbit/s Ethernet applications.

Specialist fibre technologies explained
Formerly available only to the company's resellers, the Fibercore Fiberpaedia is now available to anyone with an interest in speciality fibre technology.
Exhibiting versatility, the HOT TOSA is available with an LC or SC receptacle - designated PGT20420 and PGT20421, respectively - and also with a pigtail termination as type PGT20422.
The pigtail variant being particularly suitable for OEMs wanting to reduce component costs and to reduce heat dissipation in rack mounted card systems.
The interface with a PCB is achieved either with traditional leads or by an optional flex foil.
All variants are offered in 40 or 80km reach versions.
The modules' low chirp DFB-EA chip offers a low dispersion penalty for extended reach applications of up to 80km, and its highly stable characteristics enable it to be used with 100GHz channel spacing without the need for a wave locker.
Reducing costs for OEMs, the module's cooled TOSA MSA package facilitates easy design into existing transceivers and transponders.
Northlight Optronics' in house MOCVD epitaxial growth and InP based wafer processing technology coupled with its e-beam lithography facilitate ease of production of WDM components.
These capabilities, coupled with 20 years of experience of high speed, high performance optoelectronics have enabled Northlight Optronics' to produce the first high operating temperature, 10Gbit/s, 80km reach TOSA available from a pure-play, optoelectronic component supplier Northlight is exhibiting at ECOC 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden where this product can be seen on Stand 103.
