Linux support for NET+ARM microprocessor

NetSilicon has enlisted the help of FS Forth-Systeme to develop a Linux software developers kit (SDK) for its NS9750 NET+ARM microprocessor.

NetSilicon has enlisted the help of FS Forth-Systeme to develop a Linux software developers kit (SDK) for its NS9750 NET+ARM microprocessor.

The SDK will enable NetSilicon customers to quickly and easily implement embedded Linux-based applications on the NS9750.

"Because of its free open source availability, lack of royalties, and support for modern processor architectures and technologies, Linux is often designed into high-end embedded products", said Tim Counihan, Vice President of Marketing, NetSilicon.

"The Linux operating system is important because the open source development model enables continuous auditing of code by a worldwide network of developers.

This open source development community is constantly improving the security, performance and reliability of Linux.

FS Forth-Systeme is recognised for its expertise in embedded Linux and will serve as a valuable resource for our customers".

The FS Forth-Systeme uClinux SDK is currently available on NetSilicon's NET+50 microprocessor and a full Linux SDK will soon be available on NetSilicon's recently introduced ARM9-based NS9750 processor.

Featuring an MMU and LCD controller, the NS9750 provides the features, performance and integration necessary for embedded Linux applications.

NetSilicon's ARM-9 based NS9750 is the highest performance, most integrated NET+ARM processor available.

"While most of our customers opt for the royalty free NET+Works development kit for the fastest time to market and easiest development path, customers with significant experience and investment in Linux can also now easily use the NS9750", Counihan added.

"With this partnership, we're extending our ability to serve applications where Linux is often used, such as point-of-sale (POS) terminals, networked displays, projectors, thin clients and access control".
