Video chips raise system performance
Gennum's latest integrated circuits feature higher performance, reduced power consumption and greater functional integration for HD-SDI, SD-SDI and DVB-ASI applications.
Building on its market-leading position in semiconductors for video transport systems, Gennum's latest integrated circuits feature higher performance, reduced power consumption and greater functional integration for HD-SDI, SD-SDI and DVB-ASI applications The HD Linx II family has been expanded to include: the GS1531 multistandard serialiser with integrated cable driver; the GS1559 reclocking deserialiser with a serial loop-through cable driver; the GS1574A adaptive cable equaliser; and the GS1578A multirate dual slew-rate cable driver

POL regulator modules include all the circuit components encapsulated in such a tiny size that they resemble a surface mount IC.
The GS1531 is a feature-rich serialiser that offers SMPTE 292M and SMPTE 259M-C compliant scrambling and NRZ to NRZI encoding (with bypass).
It also offers DVB-ASI sync word insertion and 8b/10b encoding.
User-selectable processing features include CRC, ANC data checksum, line number calculation and insertion, TRS and EDH packet generation and insertion, and illegal code remapping.
The complementary GS1559 deserialiser incorporates two serial digital input buffers with a 2 x 1 multiplexer to allow the device to select from one of two serial digital input signals.
The integral reclocker has wide input jitter tolerance of +/-0.3UI, a rapid asynchronous lock time and is fully compliant with DVB-ASI data streams.
It features automatic standards detection and all processing functions can be individually enabled or disabled via a host interface control.
The GS1559 also has an inbuilt cable driver.
Completing the family of products, the GS1574A is a second-generation high-speed bipolar IC for equalising and restoring signals received over 75ohm coaxial cable and is optimised for performance at 270Mbit/s and 1.485Gbit/s.
The GS1578A is a driver for one or two 75ohm coaxial cables and is capable of handling signals up to 1.485Gbit/s.
All the devices are supplied in lead-free packages.
The serialiser and deserialiser require 1.8V and 3.3V supplies, the equaliser and driver operate from a single 3.3V supply.
