Custom connectors are created in days
Developments in medical devices, automotive electronics and other areas regularly create the need for new connector designs.
When designers decide against standard catalogue products in favour of application-specific items their main concern is for functionality, cost, design and exclusivity With growth in this area connector specialist ODU says that to find the best possible solution for customer-specific product requires a modified development process and good teamwork

Custom connectors for industrial applications
ODU can design and manufacture connector types for wide-ranging applications in medical technology, testing, traffic engineering, industrial electronics and many others.
Multipurpose modular connectors
A new 60-page catalogue covering the ODU-MAC connector system is available from ODU.
Single contacts for reliable mating
ODU has designed a range of single contacts for applications requiring very secure contact coupled with low insertion force.
Furthermore, rapid prototyping should be available to provide fast turnaround for samples.
These are concepts that ODU has developed at its international headquarters and available to customers worldwide through its subsidiaries.
Developments in medical devices, automotive electronics and other areas regularly create the need for new connector designs.
Consequently ODU has developed and manufactured customer-specific connectors for MRI scanners, automotive electronics, nuclear submarines and household appliances.
Each has its own challenges and as an example MRI connectors must provide more than 100,000 mating cycles, assuming about 40 procedures per day over a 10-year system life span; all this together with requirements for coax connection to above 4GHz.
Today, even after the specifications have been signed off and the purchase order released, design changes are still possible because of the progress in rapid prototyping techniques.
Now it is possible to make high-quality, functional samples in only a few days.
The Internet and videoconferencing provide efficient communication channels even with customers on the other side of the world, and operational procedures such as FMEA and TS16949 in the automotive industry provide a systematic approach from the start.
It is possible that from its wide range of specially developed designs ODU will be able to offer a quick connector solution or, alternatively, develop a brand new application-specific product.
