Controller combo maximises multimedia
datarates
A single-chip USB On-The-Go controller integrates a memory host controller to provide seamless interfacing with SD and MMC memory cards and the new CE-ATA small form factor hard disks.
The OXU140CM from Oxford Semiconductor is the first single-chip USB On-The-Go controller to integrate a memory host controller to provide seamless interfacing with SD and MMC memory cards and the new CE-ATA small form factor hard disks This all-in-one multistandard memory host, high-speed USB peripheral and full-speed USB host controller enables designers to maximise multimedia data transfer speeds and increase the connectivity options for portable devices, including media players, smart phones and stills cameras

Platforms simplify storage system design
Advanced platform designs enable storage system designers to evolve consumer and SOHO offerings with the market as end customer demands increase.
Expansion devices add more lines to PCI Express
PCI Express expansion devices deliver high-performance reliable industrial-grade PCI Express-based connectivity.
In its high-speed USB peripheral mode, the OXU140CM presents a USB host device - such as a PC - with a transparent bridge to the portable device memory that ensures ultra-fast data synchronisation.
By removing the need to pass data via the device CPU interface, data transfer speeds are optimised and processor utilisation is reduced.
In USB host mode the chip enables a portable application to connect to a wide range of USB devices without PC intervention, with the chip's integral charge pump capable of producing a generous bus drive current of 100mA.
Enabling portable applications to simultaneously act as both high-speed USB peripheral and full-speed USB host, the OXU140CM offers highly flexible port configuration.
In its three-port mode the chip provides two full-speed host ports and one high-speed peripheral port, and in two-port mode it provides one full speed host and one dual function On-The-Go port.
Comprehensive software support for the OXU140CM includes Oxford's USBLink Host, Peripheral and OTG stacks ported to a variety of RTOs, interface code and USB device drivers.
The OXU140CM's low power design helps to extend portable battery life, and its sleep mode helps further minimise power consumption when the controller is not in use.
Offered in a choice of two small footprint packages the 128-pin LQFP (14 x 14mm) and the 100-ball BGA (8 x 8mm) this highly integrated chip achieves significant board space savings.
Sampling now, the OXU140CM is priced at US $5.85 in 10,000-unit volumes.
