Iris recognition system moves beyond gate control
Oki Electric has unveiled a new version of its iris recognition system, the Irispass-WG.
"High-power laser diode modules are a key component used in WDM fibre-optic communication networks", said Yoshito Saito, Senior Manager of the Advanced Optoelectronic Devices Department at Oki Electric.
"As one of the leading provider of laser modules, Oki has quickly responded to market demand for broadband communications with these reliable and high-performance modules, indispensable for optical WDM networks".
The new devices are: the OL4128N-200, with output power up to 200mW, the OL4128N-250 (up to 250mW output power), and the OL4128N-300 (up to 300mW output power).
In order to provide such high optical output power, Oki worked to optimise the laser structure and to improve the efficiency of elements cooling.
By deploying the new modules throughout long-haul WDM-based fibre-optic networks, customers can increase the distance between each EDFA (erbium doped fibre amplifier), thereby lowering the number of EDFAs needed to regenerate a signal, thus saving the customer significant infrastructure investment.
In addition, the new modules support the high-performance requirements of WDM using EDFAs.
Oki intends to market these modules worldwide.
Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for September for the OL4128N-200/250 and December for the OL4128N-300.
