More power from laser modules for WDM systems
Oki Electric has developed a trio of high-power 1480nm pump laser diode modules for WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical transmission.
Applications include electronic dictionaries, PDAs, mobile games, educational equipment, sound sources, and MP3 data.
"Oki's P2ROM series have been offering a unique way to extend customers' software development time, which completely meets their requirements.
And the introduction of larger-capacity P2ROM expands the variety of applications for customers", said Katsuhiko Sano, President of the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric.
Customer-specific data are written on P2ROMs during the final inspection process, the last stage of the volume production process before shipment.
In comparison, mask ROM production requires this operation to take place during the wafer processing stage.
Oki's process enables customers to procure 100,000 units of P2ROM within ten days after receiving their data, the shortest turnaround time (TAT) of any ROM, thereby extending the customer's software development time.
As Oki provides customers with large volume of P2ROM with short TAT, it frees them from keeping inventories of blank ROMs for writing their data by themselves, and gives them a just-in-time manufacturing system.
The introduction of 128Mbit P2ROMs enhances the existing P2ROM product line from 4 to 64Mbit.
Oki will offer a 500,000 unit monthly production level.
The company will begin to ship sample products in July 2002, and shipment in volume will begin in September 2002.
The 256Mbit P2ROM is scheduled for 2003.
