Oki Electric has established a new semiconductor sales company, Oki Semiconductor Shanghai, to market its semiconductor products to local Chinese companies.

Oki Electric has established a new semiconductor sales company, Oki Semiconductor Shanghai, to market its semiconductor products to local Chinese companies, and also work as a base to provide chips to Oki's existing customers that have shifted or intend to shift their production from Japan to the Chinese market The new company will begin operation on 1st July 2002

"The demand for system LSIs and other chips in the Chinese market is rapidly growing.

The production shift to China by many Japanese manufactures also expands the needs of semiconductors in the Chinese market.

The establishment of the new sales company represents Oki's commitment to respond customers requirements quickly in this drastically changing market", said Katsuhiko Sano, President of the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric.

As the Chinese market for semiconductor business expands, Oki has decided to enhance its marketing and sales functionality by replacing the Shanghai Liaison Office of Oki Electronics (Hong Kong), which has only a function to collect market information, with the new company, Oki Semiconductor Shanghai.

Now, Oki has two major independent semiconductor sales companies covering the entire Chinese market.

The new company will market Oki's semiconductor products, in particular system LSIs, to local system vendors, especially in the Hua Zhong and Hua Bei areas of China.

Oki Semiconductor Shanghai will offer the total support required by system LSIs, from the provision of chips themselves to chips' application software, as well as middleware for customers' system software.

The establishment of the new company in Shanghai with full marketing and sales capabilities will allow Oki to more quickly provide semiconductors to its existing customers that have transferred or intend to transfer production from Japan to China.

Oki Semiconductor Shanghai is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oki Electric Industry in Japan, capitalised at US $500,000.

The sales targets are Y2.4 billion in the first fiscal year and Y11 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2006.
