More power from laser modules for WDM systems
Oki Electric has developed a trio of high-power 1480nm pump laser diode modules for WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical transmission.
"As the demand grows for high value-added functions in all of electronic equipment, including PDAs and PC peripherals, semiconductor vendors will increasingly be required to provide comprehensive solution proposals", said Masahiko Morioka, Vice President and General Manager of the Sales Division in the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric.
"By establishing this new sales company with SAC, we effectively merge our technologies with SAC's solution proposal capabilities, thereby strengthening Oki's system LSI business".
SAC's area of expertise lies in providing system solutions to its customers - offering reference designs, for example - making effective use of a wide range of semiconductor products based on various sales representative partnerships with more than 30 companies.
For its part, Oki offers strong sales and significant presence in the Japanese market, with an abundance of system LSI products and advanced technologies.
By collaborating with SAC, Oki seeks to enhance its system proposal capabilities for its Japanese customers.
In 2002, SAC concluded a sales representative agreement with Oki for Asia and the Pacific region.
The establishment of the new company represents a step toward even closer ties between the two companies.
The new company, OSAC, will add values to Oki's system LSIs, marketing them with enhanced system solution proposal capabilities.
This will be realised through an effective integration of Oki's semiconductor technologies with SAC's wide lineups of semiconductor products and support capabilities, particularly in the areas of PC peripheral and communications equipment.
OSAC will also work with SAC's sales bases in Asia to ensure smooth distribution of system LSIs and other chips for companies in China and in other Asian countries that handle the mass production of systems and equipment designed in Japan.
51% owned by Oki Electric and 49% by SAC, the new sales company is capitalised at 50 million Yen.
Current sales targets are 500 million Yen by the end of December 2003.
