Chinese plant gains green recognition

Oki Electric has enhanced its uPLAT series of integrated platforms, which lower development times of SoC LSIs, with the introduction of three core products.
Oki Electric Industry (Shenzhen) was established in July 2001 as an overseas facility for ATM unit assembly.
In October 2002, it commenced activities to obtain ISO14001.
On 5th June 2003 after a review from 12th to 13th May by one of China's certification organisations, the Shenzhen Environmental Management System Certification Centre, it succeeded in obtaining ISO14001.
"In order to obtain certification, we gathered information from a consultant knowledgeable about Chinese environmental regulations and worked on creating environmental manuals, educating employees, executing internal environment audits, mainly implemented by local Chinese staff", said Minoru Mashiko, President of Oki Electric Industry (Shenzhen).
"We especially focused on improving employees' environmental awareness.
We worked together with the staff on how to reduce and separate wastes and each employee set a goal to contribute to preservation of the environment".
Oki Electric Industry (Shenzhen) Co is Oki's fifth overseas production plant to obtain the certification.
