Oki Electric has developed a trio of high-power 1480nm pump laser diode modules for WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical transmission.
Starting production from 1st June 2004, the company will aim to hold 20% of the worldwide laptop PC keyboard market share by the fiscal year ending March 2006, and to manufacture 2.4 million keyboards per year.
"Since 1970, when Oki started its keyboard design, development and sales, our keyboards have been highly evaluated from customers with its technology to make them light and thin without losing functionality", said Yutaka Maeda, Senior Vice President of Oki Electric, responsible for the company's Chinese business activities.
"As the production demand increases, we found it necessary to expand the organisation".
"We established this new company in Kunshan City to improve our keyboard production efficiency and to further enhance the link with PC manufacturers who are concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta".
Oki's keyboard business basis was originally located in Taiwan, which was moved to China several years ago to further expand sales and production.
By working closely with manufacturing partners, the new company will focus on manufacturing thin and light keyboards for mobile laptop PCs, which is rapidly increasing in the keyboard market.
It will keep a user support basis in Shanghai and deploy sales activities towards the Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean markets.
