A light and elastic heat radiation material reduces 40% of the heat generated from electronic equipment during operation, eliminating a cooling fan or pressuring electronic components.

Oki Electric Industry Co has announced the development of a light and elastic heat radiation material, X CooL, which reduces 40% of the heat generated from electronic equipment during operation This is enabled without using a cooling fan or pressuring electronic components

Oki plans shipment from April 2005.

"X CooL, targeted toward the electronic equipment market, is an application of Oki's Stick-it Flexible Hybrid Sheet 1 that can reduce both heat radiation and heat conduction," said Harushige Sugimoto, Chairman and President of Manufacturing Service Company at Oki Electric.

"We will continue to provide heat radiation solutions by continuing to provide the series as well as developing new products, and target net sales of 1 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2006 with our Stick-it Flexible series." Conventional heat sink is used to dissipate heat, which is effective when there is space for a cooling fan.

However, it is difficult to gain the same dissipation effect in sealed areas or in electronic equipment with limited space.

X CooL has a cylinder shaped elastic fin inside, which applied a special shape processing to its Stick-it Flexible Hybrid Sheet.

While heat sinks had difficulty fitting between the device and case as they give pressure to the device, X CooL can fit between with its flexible thin sheet, being light and elastic.

X CooL can be replaced from conventional heat sinks with its lighter and smaller heat dissipate material that is only 40% the cubic measure and 1/8 weight of heat sinks for sealed equipment.

In addition, because it can restrain the heat loss from devices, X CooL contributes in making electronic components and equipment smaller, lighter, more silent, longer life, higher functions and saving energy.

Note: 1 Stick-it Flexible Hybrid Sheet is a hybrid heat radiation sticker with Cerac painted onto a thin beaten-copper sheet that can reduce heat radiation and can conduct heat.

Cerac is the environment-friendly, inorganic liquid ceramic paint for heat radiation, co-developed by Oki Electric and Ceramission.

Being only 0.2mm thick, it is highly flexible for bending and pulling, enabling to be placed on various places.
