Oki Electric has announced it has signed an agreement with Tyco Electronics to transfer Tyco Electronics' technology of USB power protection switch ICs to Oki Electric.

Oki Electric Industry has announced it has signed an agreement with Tyco Electronics Corporation to transfer Tyco Electronics' technology of USB power protection switch IC's to Oki Electric The technology being transferred is a protection switch IC that is inserted in the power supply line for USB terminals

Use of terminals equipped with USB, a high-speed serial interface standard, is rapidly increasing in common applications such as digital still cameras and as an interface to connect PCs with digital appliances.

The power protection switch IC offers functions to help enable a USB power supply including overcurrent protection, soft-start, and UVLO (Under Voltage Lock Out) functions.

Oki will accept orders of the USB power protection switch IC beginning 21st July 2006.

"Based on this agreement, we will provide system solutions that have lower power consumption and lesser components with our differentiating technologies in power management LSI such as high voltage processing, low power consumption, and circuit area technologies," said Masahiko Morioka, President of Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric.

"By taking in the technologies from Tyco Electronics, Oki will expand the offering of system solutions by adding power supply line protection switch IC to our product lineup that includes linear regulator and switching regulator.".
