With three footprints on a single FR4 substrate, the Om-Adapt TSOP2 is a low-cost prototyping adapter that can accommodate most of the SMD packages commonly used for memory devices.

With three footprints on a single FR4 substrate, the Om-Adapt TSOP2 is a low-cost prototyping adapter that can accommodate most of the SMD packages commonly used for memory devices The adapter provides a footprint for the 0.5mm pitch "long" outline TSOP2 package, one for 0.8mm pitch gullwing packages, and one for the 1.27mm pitch SOJ

Thus, this single part, with a one-off cost less than GBP 10, offers the capability for prototyping with Flash, SRAM or DRAM devices.

All the footprints have a maximum pin count of 56.

A novel overlapping (patent applied for) outline arrangement entirely avoids the need for vias, optimising electrical performance.

User connections are provided by two arrays of 1mm plated holes on a 0.1in grid, allowing maximum flexibility for the user.

Omega Research claims the universal one-adapter-fits-many approach minimises the purchasing delay and cost overhead incurred with one-for-one adapters by making it attractive to buy in quantity and hold stock, as the stock is far more likely to find a use.

Indeed, with just six adapter types, Omega Research claims that most of the smaller SMD packages are now catered for.

Available from stock, this is the latest variant in the Om-Adapt range, with other parts already available for QFP packages up to 144 pins, SOIC, SSOP, MSOP and TSSOP packages up to 48 pins, US8, uMAX8 and uMAX10 packages, all versions of the SOT23, and the SC70.
