Omron has introduced what it believes to be the industry's smallest relay capable of switching 1.5GHz signals cleanly in cellular, wireless LAN, broadcasting and STB applications.

Omron has introduced what it believes to be the industry's smallest relay capable of switching 1.5GHz signals cleanly in cellular, wireless LAN, broadcasting and STB applications With external dimensions of just 20 x 9 x 8.6mm, the Omron G6Z relay is 25% smaller than its current design, and is offered in a huge variety of different styles

The different variants offered suit the relay to applications in cable TV, broadcast studio, and set top box applications, W-CDMA cellular basestations, ATE equipment, and wireless PABX/LAN installations alike, operating at between 1 and 2.6GHz.

Despite its small size, the G6Z exhibits excellent high-frequency characteristics.

Insertion loss is only 0.2dB at 900MHz, rising to 0.5dB at 2.6GHz, whilst VSWR is 1.2 and 1.5, respectively, at these frequencies.

Isolation is 65 or 30dB, again at the same frequencies, and the relay can transmit up to 10W.

Omron offers the relay in both 50 and 75ohm variants, with E-type and Y-type PCB terminal layouts.

Contact configuration can be specified in both normal and a, b reversed forms.

The G6Z is available as either single-stable or 1,2 coil latching - with a very high sensitivity of only 360mW in the 2 coil latching type.

Omron has rated the relay for a mechanical life of 1 million operations, and an electrical life of at least 300,000 operations, under the specified operating conditions.

The G6Z relay is available in both through hole and surface mounting form, and is manufactured using a lead-free process.
