New lead- and cadmium-free relays from Omron provide environmentally friendly 'drop-in' replacements for existing styles Omron has a strategy of developing lead-free soldering and plating processes and has spent three years perfecting the technology for mass-production using these processes, as well as reliability evaluation standards and a fully established production system

This policy is particularly important for customers in Europe, where the use of lead is being increasingly prohibited due to the risk of solder and plating materials in landfills causing groundwater pollution.

Among the fruits of this program is the new Omron G5SB series of PCB relays, which share all the features of the existing G5S styles, but are manufactured using less environmentally damaging materials.

The new relay is a compact SPDT configuration device, with high isolation that can switch up to 5A.

The G5SB can withstand an impulse voltage of 8kV between the coil and the contacts.

The device conforms to UL, CSA and VDE approval.

Dimensions and PCB footprint are identical to the earlier version, which it will replace.
