Omron is to significantly expand its component manufacturing plant in Shenzhen, China - which it opened in June 2002 To support expected exponential growth in demand from China, Omron ECB is to add 40,000m2 of factory space, and increase headcount from 1300 to 3000 by March 2004, to support the enhanced capacity

The 45,000m2 ISO9001 certified plant produces high quality relays, switches, sensors, connectors and other components.

Commenting on the plans, Jose Luis Gonzalez, European Marketing Manager for Omron Components said, "At Shenzhen, we use the same innovative manufacturing technologies and demanding quality processes as at facilities elsewhere in the world.

Our expansion here is in line with our strategy to support our component business with flexible, responsive and cost-competitive manufacturing support".

The Shenzhen facility was certified to QS9000 before opening, and certification to the demanding ISO/TS16949, the harmonised standard for the automotive supply chain, was achieved in January 2003.
