Omron has extended its XF2-series of 0.5mm-pitch FPC connectors, adding low-profile small-footprint versions that maximise ease of cable insertion, design flexibility and reliability.

Omron has extended its XF2-series of 0.5mm-pitch FPC connectors, adding low-profile small-footprint versions that incorporate new features to maximise ease of cable insertion, design flexibility and reliability The new members of the Omron XF2-series feature a four-sided FPC housing that facilitates fast and accurate positioning of the FPC prior to closing the slider

In addition, double-sided contacts guarantee successful mating of the prepared FPC conductors and the connector contacts, regardless of orientation.

All XF2-series connectors also feature Omron's unique rotary cable locking mechanism that saves assembly time and enhances reliability.

Included in the Omron XF2-series of 0.5mm cable-to-board connectors is the XF2M, which also requires less board space than conventional 0.5mm pitch connectors.

It is available in eight sizes between 10 and 50 ways, with more versions planned.

Board layout benefits from the narrower mounting depth of 5.9mm, slider closed.

The XF2M series is suitable for 0.3mm thick FPC, and has a mounted height of 2.0mm.

The XF2N extends the options available to designers by offering 21- or 32- contact versions that feature a bottom wall to prevent exposure of the contacts on the reverse side of the connector.

XF2N connectors have an ultra-low mounted profile of 0.9mm, and are suitable for use with 0.2mm-thick FPC.

Finally, the XF2R series features an FPC guide section for easier insertion leading to higher work efficiency.

Models are available to match 0.12mm thick FPC from six to 40 conductors.

All XF2R connectors share the ultra-low 0.9mm profile of the XF2N, and also have a very short 5.5mm depth with the slider closed, providing more freedom for designers when determining board layout.

The new Omron XF2 series FPC connectors incorporate Omron's enhanced rotary cable locking mechanism, which allows the connector to be delivered with the slider open.

This reduces the number of actions required to insert and lock the FPC, reducing the assembly time per product.

Closing the slider after cable insertion does not alter the location of the FPC.

This improves assembly time, increases the first time test pass rate, and reduces warranty returns.

The rotary slider is also resistant to lifting if force is applied to the FPC, preventing the cable and connector from separating if excess force is applied to the cable.
