A new vibration motor for cellphones, believed to be the world's thinnest, most durable and most effective, has been developed by Omron.

A new vibration motor for cellphones, believed to be the world's thinnest, most durable and most effective, has been developed by Omron A new cellphone LED module has also been added to Omron's portfolio

Omron's B5A motor is only 2.0mm high - a reduction of around 0.7-1.5mm from currently available motors.

It also generates the highest acceleration of a flat type vibration motor, with rates of 11g (12.0mm) or 9g (11.0mm).

The shaft of the motor is welded to the base to enhance shock resistance to over 200g.

Using a brushless structure, the B5A has a life of over 1 million cycles giving it three times the life of other motors.

It features a built-in driver IC, eliminating the need for additional components for the drive circuit and saving space on the PCB.

Omron's B5A vibration motor draws just 80mA (12.0mm) or 90mA (11.0mm) from a 3V DC supply.

The B5A is available in FPC termination.

Coil spring, plate spring and wire cable options are planned for release.

Omron has also developed the new B5E-143 flashlight module designed for cellphone, PDA and digital still camera applications.

It is 7 x 7 x 2.5mm in size and offers a total central illumination of 11 lux (at 20mA) on an object at a distance of 500mm.

The B5E optimises light power from a three-chip LED coupled with an ultrathin optical sheet, that together provides more than double the illuminance compared with a conventional LED design, helping to reduce battery power consumption.
