Versatile video companion complements existing SoCs with video encode, decode and image processing functions and can for example upgrade a MP3/audio or cellphone with video.

At the 6th annual Embedded Systems Conference Taiwan 2006, On Demand Microelectronics will release its Svenm scalable video engine for mobile devices ESC-Taiwan will be held on 17th and 18th August 2006

SVENm is a versatile video companion that complements existing SoCs systems with video encode, decode and image processing functions and can for example upgrade a MP3/audio or cellphone with video.

Due to the multiple interfaces available on the Svenm, the solution can be an ally for a wide variety of applications and very low-power usage makes it especially suitable for portable products.

"With Svenm we give the customer a fast and cost-efficient possibility to grade up their systems with sophisticated video functionalities".

"By simply interfacing our programmable solution a new product can be generated and put on the market very quickly".

"Our solution turns for example a simple MP3 player into a multimedia gadget in practically no time", explains Christian Tiringer, CEO of ODM.

The architetcure of Svenm is highly optimised in regards of area and power consumption.

Svenm the software-programmable video processor operates all video (eg H.264, MPEG4, VC-1, DivX) standards and is ready for all kinds of image processing tasks such as deinterlacing, down- and upscaling, noise reduction or video-to-display-adoption.

Due to its multiple interfaces (eg SDIO, NAND Flash, GPIO, SDIO/CE-ATA) Svenm can complement a wide range of diverse mobile SoCs - cellphones, personal medias player, MP3 chipsets, video conferencing systems and many more applications can be served by Svenm.

The battery-life-issue mobile applications have to deal with was tackled by ODM by using cutting edge power reduction strategies while en- and decoding making Svenm a highly flexible and power-saving companion.
