New Pb-free ultrasmall 6-, 10- and 16-pin analogue switches use between 1.2 and 4.7mm2 of board space, and are up to 70% smaller than the competition.

ON Semiconductor has introduced three new low resistance analogue switches for portable and wireless audio applications Offered in lead-free thin QFN and thin DFN packages that use between 1.2 and 4.7mm2 of board space, these 6-, 10- and 16-pin devices are claimed to be the industry's smallest and highest performance audio analogue switches

"Customers with space-constrained portable applications prefer higher performance functions in smaller footprint packages", said Dan Huettl, Director for ON Semiconductor's Logic and Analog Switch business unit.

"ON Semiconductor's new analogue switches directly address our customers' needs".

"The response has been extremely positive".

"Some customers have already designed the parts into their latest cellphones and are ramping up production".

The three new high performance audio analogue switches are designed for high-current switching of an audio signal in portable and wireless applications with low operating voltages.

The devices are ideal for higher power audio applications that require low on-resistance for improved power efficiency.

Target applications include cellular phones, PDAs and MP3 players.

The NLAS3799MNR2G is a low-voltage ultralow-on-resistance dual double-pole double-throw (dual DPDT) switch.

It achieves total harmonic distortion of 0.11% and low on-resistance of 0.35ohm allowing for superior audio performance and low power consumption.

In addition, the NLAS3799LMNR2G (low voltage logic level version) can operate with a 1.8V input swing.

These parts are available in a Pb-free 16-lead thin QFN that measures 2.6 x 1.8 x 0.75mm and uses 48% less board space than competing products.

They are priced at $0.97 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5223MNR2G is a low-voltage ultralow-on-resistance dual single- pole double-throw (dual SPDT) switch.

This analogue switch has enhanced lower on-resistance performance and has a 70% smaller footprint than the very popular NLAS4684MNR2G.

It achieves total harmonic distortion of 0.12% and low on-resistance of 0.35ohm allowing for superior audio performance and low power consumption.

In addition, the low voltage logic level version of the NLAS5223LMNR2G can operate with a 1.8V input swing.

This part comes in a Pb-free 10-lead thin QFN that measures 1.4 x 1.8 x 0.75mm.

It is priced at $0.67 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5123MNR2G is a 1ohm on-resistance single SPDT analogue switch with 0.012% total harmonic distortion and break before make capability.

It is available in a Pb-free 6-lead thin DFN that measures 1.2 x 1.0 x 0.75mm and uses 53% less board space than competing products.

It is priced at $0.56 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
