DC/DC convertors suit power sensitive
applications
High-performing pulsewidth modulation (PWM), pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) and PWM-only DC/DC convertors are optimised for portable applications.
ON Semiconductor has introduced two new high-performing pulsewidth modulation (PWM), pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) and PWM-only DC/DC convertors optimised for portable applications Supplying clean output voltage with very low ripple voltage and fast transient response, the new NCP1523 and NCP1523B are ideal for use in power sensitive applications such as micro hard disk drives found in multimedia portable devices

Low jitter for drop-in PLL synthesiser replacement
The NBC12429FN is a 3.3/5.0V programmable PLL clock synthesiser that provides a 25 to 400MHz system clock ideal for the primary timing signals in networking, telecomms and test hardware.
Meritorious performance from N-channel MOSFETs
Continuing the expansion of its portfolio of low-voltage power MOSFETs for switching and power management applications, ON Semiconductor has released a range of new N-channel devices.
The NCP1523 and NCP1523B feature a high switching frequency of 3MHz, which enables the use of a smaller inductor down to 1uH.
The devices deliver high power efficiency - up to 93% - thanks to synchronous rectification to extend battery life and reduce external part count.
To supply power to even the most demanding microprocessor in portable electronics, these new DC/DC convertors provide very fast response times.
The NCP1523 features automatic switching PWM/PFM modes, which improve system efficiency at a light load.
The PWM-only mode, featured in the NCP1523B, offers an efficient load transient solution and low output voltage ripple.
Additionally, these new devices offer integrated soft-start, cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown protection.
"These new convertors address critical performance and size demands for our portable electronics customers", said Hyung-Sup Kim, Marketing Director of ON Semiconductor's Digital Consumer Products Group.
"Not only do these NCP1523 devices meet the most stringent power requirements for portable electronics, they provide superior efficiency performance in one of the smallest packages currently offered in the market".
Available in an adjustable output voltage from 0.9 to 3.3V, the NCP1523 and NCP1523B are housed in the tiny 2.1 x 1.1mm 8-pin flip-chip package.
They are priced at US $0.75 per unit in 1000-unit quantities.
