Alliance focuses on LED packaging advances
Optek Technology has signed a joint research and development, manufacturing and marketing relationship agreement with Lednium, an Australian based LED technology company.
Expanding the scope of their visible LED business into the fast-growing solid state lighting marketplace, Optek Technology has signed a joint research and development, manufacturing and marketing relationship agreement with Lednium, an Australian based LED technology company.
This strategic alliance combines the strengths of both companies to create a significant presence in the emerging solid state lighting industry.
"This partnership is an ideal building block for many value added and customer specific lighting assemblies for our automotive and industrial assemblies programmes", said Richard Saffa, Vice President of Optek's Visible LED Business Unit.
"Lednium brings a wealth of experience to the partnership, and their commitment to high standards has helped them achieve numerous awards, including the Australian Government Engineering Innovation Award and the Institution of Engineers Engineering Excellence Award for Research and Development".
Optek established a visible LED business unit earlier this year, and currently offers a comprehensive product line that includes industry standard high brightness and high power LEDs.
Through a focused research initiative, Lednium developed the world's first three-dimensional LED die platform for both white and monocolour LEDs, as well as end-product LED assemblies for applications ranging from architectural lighting to automotive aftermarket assemblies for tractor-trailer exterior taillights and clearance lights.
Under terms of the agreement, Optek will develop a series of solid state lighting products using the Lednium packaging technology.
Designated the Optek Lednium Series, the new product line will include single-chip "cup" packaged discrete LED lighting units as well as multichip geodesic dome shaped 10W LED assemblies.
Available colours will include white, blue, green, amber, and red, along with colour combinations such as RGB.
Optek and Lednium plan to jointly develop other wavelength technologies to be packaged for various markets, from medical applications to surveillance and security equipment.
Applications for the Optek Lednium Series include architectural lighting, automotive, aviation, display, entertainment, gaming and vending machines, marine, military, signs and signals, variable message signs and general illumination.
