R, G and B LEDs combine for full colour lighting

Optek Technology has expanded its Lednium LED assemblies to include an RGB device capable of producing any colour light.

Combining red, green and blue high-brightness LEDs in a 10W, thermally efficient three-dimensional package with a 120-degree viewing angle, TT electronics Optek Technology has expanded its Lednium LED assemblies to include an RGB device capable of producing any colour light.

Introduced at the Lightfair International conference, the latest addition to the company's Lednium family is designated the OVTL09LGM Series.

"By mixing the red, green and blue colours, it is possible to achieve virtually any colour in the visible spectrum, including white, without using phosphor, which may cause a shift in colour output over time", said Richard Saffa, Vice President of Optek Technology's Visible LED Business Unit.

"The RGB colour combination allows lighting design engineers to utilise a single Lednium device for accent lighting, architectural lighting, and wall wash applications".

Additional applications for the RGB Lednium Series device include entertainment lighting application as well as interior and exterior signage and displays, Saffa continued.

The RGB Ledium assembly is composed of three red, three green and three blue LEDs mounted in the patented three-dimensional Lednium surface-mount package that gives the device superior thermal resistance characteristics as well as its full 120-degree viewing angle.

Typical luminous flux for the RGB assembly is 221 lumen, with a typical on-axis intensity of 68cd.

DC forward current is 1.05A, with peak pulsed forward current of 3A.

Typical forward voltage is 8.6V and reverse voltage is 15V.

Maximum allowable junction temperature is 130C (average thermal resistance junction-to-board is 5C/W), and the operating temperature range for the device is -50 to +80C.

Optek's Lednium Series devices are also available in amber (595nm, 330 lumen); blue (467nm, 60 lumen); green (524nm, 290 lumen); red (624nm, 247 lumen); and white (250 lumen).

All colours feature a full 120-degree viewing angle in water clear lenses.

Optek RGB Lednium device is stocked by Optek's distributors in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Production quantity lead times are from stock to 6 weeks.
