Isolators suit dirty environments

An Optek Technology product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Nov 2, 2007

The isolators are sealed in a pre-cast opaque housing with an optically transmissive path between the LED and the photosensor.

Optek Technology's OPI120 and OPI123 optically coupled isolators are rated to 15kV and feature a hermetically sealed infra-red LED packaged with either a phototransistor or photodarlington output.

"With the extension of the electrical isolation of the devices, we have made them suitable for a greater range of applications", said Alan Bennett, Vice President of sales and marketing for Optek Technology.

"By making the isolators available with the choice of outputs and other electrical options, we are able to provide customers with the versatility they need for any number of high-voltage and contaminated environments".

The optically coupled isolators are suitable for high-voltage isolation between input and output as well as electrical isolation in dirty environments, including industrial, medical and office equipment.

The isolators are sealed in a pre-cast opaque housing with an optically transmissive path between the LED and the photosensor.

The OPI120 and OPI123 isolators feature an LED with a peak wavelength of 890nm or 935nm, a forward DC current of 150mW and power dissipation rating of 200mW.

Minimum collector-emitter voltages for the output photosensor are 25 and 20V, respectively, with an emitter-collector voltage of 5V and power dissipation of 250mW.

The operating temperature range is -55C to +100C.

Custom electrical specifications, wire and cabling and connectors are available.
