Actuators upgrade pick-and-place operations
Moving coil actuators are available to upgrade pneumatic and electrical pick and place heads in electronics manufacturing, with direct replacements available in some cases.
Orlin Technologies is now able to offer SMAC moving coil actuators to users of electronics manufacturing equipment as upgrades to existing pneumatic and electrical pick and place heads, with direct replacements available in some cases.
The improved vacuum system in the latest SMAC models includes an optional user-replaceable filter that prevents dust ingress.
This eliminates many of the problems previously encountered whereby dust clogs internal rotary seals, increasing friction and reducing rotary motor life.
The abrasive dust generated during manufacture of many electronic components also wears the seals causing leaks and loss of vacuum pressure.
Other inherent advantages of SMAC actuators over traditional devices include precise force control, allowing the use of the patented "softland" routine to handle delicate objects (such as SMT devices and semiconductor wafers) without damage.
High resolution position feedback and very high speed from low moving mass and low friction mean that the performance of a SMAC pick and place head far exceeds older technologies.
In addition, all of the motion parameters (position, velocity, acceleration and force) are fully programmable, allowing much greater control over the process thus increasing both throughput and quality.
