3G Lab and OSE Systems are to integrate the OSE Wireless Platform with 3G Lab's Trigenix user interface engine.
The integration will provide handset manufacturers with a dynamic and reliable software solution that will accelerate the development of customisable mobile phones with user interfaces (UIs) that network operators can easily update, brand and personalise over the air.
With customers such as Ericsson, Samsung and Agere, OSE Systems already addresses the total range of handsets, from mass consumer handsets to high-end smart phones.
The runtime software update capabilities of the OSE Wireless Platform is a perfect match with Trigenix, 3G Lab's universal graphical user interface engine for mobile devices.
The joint solution enables device manufacturers and network operators to update the functionality and brand the user interface on handsets, exploiting the colour screens and increased functionality of the phones.
"In today's mobile phone industry, handset manufacturers and network operators are both working towards the same goals - to rapidly build highly customisable phones that allow easy branding and promotion of services", said Anders Flodin, Director of Strategic Alliances at OSE Systems.
"The joint OSE and 3G Lab solution provides handset manufacturers with the means to rapidly develop advanced mobile phones with user interfaces that operators can customise, brand and upgrade over the air".
"We are seeing an increasing demand for software solutions that add the flexibility and reliability needed to fully utilise the capabilities of next generation handsets", said Steve Ives, Chief Executive Officer of 3G Lab.
"Network operators and handset manufacturers need to be able to tailor their devices to individual user requirements.
This joint software platform provides the necessary modularity and flexibility".
The Trigenix user interface engine allows operators and users to replace native user interfaces on next generation 2.5G and 3G devices resulting in a UI that is easily customisable and brandable - all possible by an over-the-air configuration.
New UI graphics are supported and economical to produce, as they are based on standard XSL and XML web technologies.
OSE Systems offers a complete and extended RTOS solution with special capabilities for 2.5G and 3G handsets such as dynamic program loading in runtime, memory protection for downloaded applications, advanced Flash support, crash safe file system, virtual memory, multicore support, power management capabilities, networking, Bluetooth, Java and graphics, user applications such as web browser and email client.
The OSE Wireless Platform supports all ARM architectures and a majority of DSP architectures.
