Enea Embedded Technology and Metrowerks are together bringing a best-of-class real-time operating system and software development environment to PowerQUICC III systems.

Enea Embedded Technology and Metrowerks are together bringing a best-of-class real-time operating system and software development environment to PowerQUICC III systems.

The OSE RTOS and Illuminator system-level debug tools, together with Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Development Studio, PowerQUICC III Edition, offer an ideal platform for developing and deploying applications based on the PowerQUICC architecture for high-availability networking and communications systems.

"CodeWarrior is a premier development environment", said Christophe Ballan, Executive Vice President Marketing of Enea Embedded Technology.

"We are very pleased that Metrowerks has committed to provide development support for our high-availability operating system, and look forward to working with them to provide the industry's most comprehensive platform for developing and deploying PowerQUICC III and embedded PowerPC ISA applications".

"OSE provides an excellent platform for developing high-availability applications for networking and communications systems", said David Clifton, Marketing Vice President of Metrowerks.

"We are committed to combining our best-of-class development tools with OSE to create an integrated development and target platform optimised for PowerQUICC III and embedded PowerPC systems".

The CodeWarrior development studio is engineered to address the PowerQUICC III software development cycle, from hardware evaluation, board bring-up, and OSE kernel adaptation, to application development, project management, RTOS-aware source-level debugging and code coverage.

Available for a full line of Motorola communication and host processors, the CodeWarrior development studio includes a powerful JTAG emulation probe (PowerTap Pro) including Flash and trace support that greatly simplifies board bring up and debug.

OSE Illuminator, tightly integrated with the CodeWarrior development studio, is an RTOS-aware, system-level analysis and profiling tool that enables programmers to monitor, control and collect data for applications viewed as a sequence of events (such as context switches and message passing between processes).

Illuminator's zoomable system browser provides a graphical view of all processes and process information running on the PowerQUICC III processor, and profiling capabilities that make it easy to monitor and fine-tune memory usage.

The memory-protected OSE RTOS is optimised for high-availability, high-reliability distributed communications systems.

Utilising the PowerQUICC III processor's hardware memory management facilities, OSE provides a firewall that enhances reliability and availability by preventing kernel and application processes from corrupting each other.

OSE provides a flexible, message-based communications framework that makes it easy to build distributed PowerQUICC processor-based networks using the processor's RapidIO switch fabric interconnect.

OSE also features a complete networking solution that includes TCP/IP and other networking/security protocols, as well as dynamic download, which enhances flexibility by enabling new applications to be downloaded to systems as they operate in the field.
