Owasys platform used in Eroski vehicle system

The fleet management division of Fagor Elektronica has almost completed the installation of telematics and a communication system in vehicles using the Owasys platform.

The GPS technology is being used to improve the quality of fresh products that Eroski sells in its stores.

Eroski has installed a GPS device in about 600 trucks to ensure fresh products.

The GPS is connected to a temperature sensor that measures at what temperature the products are being transported.

This combination of technologies allows the control of two fundamental variables in the freeze/cold chain, the temperature and the time.

The two variables simultaneously work together in order to assure the final quality and security of the products, all while minimising the loss of money due to poor product maintenance.

The information obtained from the GPS and the sensor/sounder are received and managed in a data reception centre.

The centre advises drivers and whoever is responsible for the transportation of any incidents in the freeze/cold chain.

One of the key elements to the success of the project has been the Fagor Elektronica software application design, which allows the data of the GPS and sounder to be managed.

The embedded system in each vehicle is made by Owasys, which allows for GSM/GPS/GPRS and Bluetooth connectivity and is compatible with a Linux operating system, allowing for vertical applications to be used for different customers and segments.

This project has allowed Eroski to install cold chain follow-up equipment in 600 of its trucks.

The collaboration between Fagor and Owasys allows the innovation in the productive process through the embedded wireless technologies.

There are more than 6,000 commercial vehicles utilising this system.
