Two-axis sensor is based on Panasonic's own piezoelectric MEMS tuning-fork technology, and can also be used in automotive applications.

Panasonic Electronic Devices has developed a compact angular rate sensor for applications in consumer electronic products such as correcting for small movements of the operator's hands in digital stills cameras and digital video cameras The new two-axis sensor is based on Panasonic's own piezoelectric MEMS (microelectromechanical system) tuning-fork technology, and can also be used in automotive applications

Measuring just 5.6 x 4.65 x 1.0mm, the new device is some 40% smaller than the company's existing EWTS97 series sensors, answering market demands for smaller and thinner devices.

The device integrates on-chip amplifiers, and incorpotrates power-saving standby modes.
