Research from Parks Associates indicates a small but dedicated segment of consumers will drive the early market for video content and live TV services on portable and mobile platforms.
Mobile Entertainment Platforms and Services, featuring a survey of more than 2000 US Internet users, found 13% of those who own one or more portable devices would like to see capabilities for live TV integrated into these devices.
The majority of these consumers belong to a consumer segment dubbed Mobile Aficionados, which consists of more than 40 million Internet users.
The MobiTV service is available in the US through Sprint, Cingular and several regional carriers; in the UK through 3 and Orange UK; and is now available to Canadian customers through Bell Canada, Rogers and TELUS Mobility.
The Emmy Award winning service now reaches more than half a million subscribers and offers many popular TV channels from content providers such as MSNBC, ABC News Now, CNN, Fox Sports, ESPN 3GTV, NBC Mobile, CNBC, The Discovery Channel, The Weather Channel and others that deliver cartoons, music videos and comedy.
MobiTV also has a full line up of geographically specific channels.
