The new P985 and P955 battery contact probes for 2.5mm centres can be surface-mounted onto a printed-circuit board or soldered into a 1.65mm hole in the board and inserted from the underside.

They are competitively priced for large quantity usage in manufacturing, but are also available in smaller quantities.
