Tools are cleared for export without licence

The US Department of Commerce has formally cleared the Spectra tools and operating environment for export "without a licence" under the terms of the Export Administration Regulations.

PrismTech has announced that the US Department of Commerce, following the US Department of State, had formally cleared its Spectra tools and operating environment (OE) for export "without a licence" under the terms of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

PrismTech's Spectra combines advanced technology with superior COTS packaging to provide the leading SDR development and deployment environment available today.

Spectra greatly enhances developer productivity (in terms of both time and code quality) through the incorporation of advanced model driven development (MDD) and domain specific language (DSL) technology.

The interoperability of the tools is facilitated through the packaging of Spectra Tools as Eclipse Framework "plug-ins" thus supporting seamless workflow with other Eclipse-based tooling.

PrismTech's integration and optimisation of the run-time environment (RTOS and middleware) has produced a memory footprint of under 1Mbyte (less then 10% of some competitors) and high performance leveraging custom transports (eg switch fabrics).

Spectra supports open standards and is thus radio platform independent: supporting any mix of GPP, DSP, and RTL processor technologies.

Spectra also does not impose vendor lock-in, customers can choose a complete end-to-end Spectra solution or can use Spectra Tools with 3rd party Standards-based COTS or proprietary middleware.

The US Department of State had confirmed earlier this year that the products were not covered by the US Munitions List and were therefore not subject to licensing by the Department of State pursuant to the Arms Export Control Act and ITAR.

The Department of Commerce have now formally granted the entire Spectra product suite (both Tools and Operating Environment) EAR 99 clearance.

Products classified as "EAR 99" are eligible for export without a licence to all destinations except Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Sudan and Syria under the provisions of the NLR (no licence required) in accordance with S758.1(g) of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
