"The UK startup environment is now beginning to look and feel a lot like that of silicon valley.

There is a wealth of motivated, highly creative talent available, along with the right venture capital and financial environment.

I am pleased to return to the UK to help drive the growth", said Dr Sykes.

"picoChip has assembled a first class team of silicon and system experts and is creating leading edge technology with a massive market potential.

The company's scaleable, multi-processor baseband IC offers a unique set of characteristics that provides wireless system designers with radical flexibility and freedom from current limitations.

It's an honour to have the opportunity to join, and drive a team that stands to bring such significant benefits to the industry", concluded Dr Sykes.

He takes up the post after three years at LogicVision, where he was vice president of marketing and business development, and most recently vice president of systems business.

Prior to LogicVision, Dr Sykes held various strategic and business unit directors roles in Philips Semiconductors in Sunnyvale CA, including leading the Paradise Multimedia activity.

Before moving to California, he spent 13 years at Texas Instruments where he held a variety of senior technical and marketing roles in the ASIC business units in the UK and North America.

"This appointment marks the end of an extensive international search for an executive with exceptional engineering and industry knowledge in the technologies and market sectors that we will serve.

Rodger is a seasoned campaigner and joins us at a most exciting point in the company's development as we begin to initiate our first major product launch", added Peter Claydon, picoChip founder and COO.

Jamie Urquhart of ARM, a nonexecutive picoChip board member concluded, "We are delighted that Rodger has decided to join picoChip.

We combed the industry for a high calibre professional to lead the company through the next phase of it's development.

Rodger's skills and experience match perfectly to enhance those of the picoChip team".
