ip.access is using a custom version of picoChip's multicore DSP hardware and modem software in its femto3G access points for residential fixed-mobile convergence.

ip.access, a leading developer of in-building wireless picocell solutions, is using a custom version of picoChip's multicore DSP hardware and modem software in its femto3G access points for residential fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) ip.access' recently announced femto3G access points are W-CDMA femtocells that use residential broadband connections to provide high-quality FMC services and extend 3G macro-network coverage into the home

ip.access' pure cellular approach means that, unlike VoWLAN-based FMC solutions, the 3G Access Point solution is compatible with all 3G handsets.

For the ip.access femto3G access point solution, picoChip has developed a custom version of its PC202 picoArray-based multicore platform that integrates high-performance DSP functionality to support the requirements of WCDMA and HSDPA modem implementation, and an ARM processor to run the sophisticated control code and the network-integration software developed by ip.access.

Guillaume d'Eyssautier, CEO, picoChip, commented: "We are delighted to be working with ip.access".

"Our technology has been specified to meet the exacting performance demands of 3G, and at the same time support the commercial requirements involved in delivering products for residential consumer markets".

Stephen Mallinson, CEO, ip.access, added: "Our aim in developing femto3G is to enable cellular operators to offer mobile users seamless roaming and single-phone convenience at attractive fixed-line prices".

"Working with picoChip to customise their software-defined radio technology helps us to achieve high performance, flexibility and the ability to differentiate and scale our solution".
