Driver makes Ethernet connections more
efficient
Pleora Technologies, a supplier of GigE connectivity solutions, has announced a PC driver architecture that redefines performance benchmarks for Ethernet connectivity and data flow at the PC host.
Pleora Technologies, the vision industry's leading supplier of GigE connectivity solutions, has announced a ground-breaking PC driver architecture that redefines performance benchmarks for Ethernet connectivity and data flow at the PC host Pleora's patent-pending new architecture delivers the platform for a single, multi-mode driver that interoperates with any IP transport protocol

Communications software speeds video transmission
A novel high-speed PC communications software package aims to slash the cost, enhance the performance and increase the flexibility of vision systems with large processing overheads.
When released early next year, this multi-mode driver will handle the full spectrum of connectivity requirements in today's vision systems - from lower-performance transmission control protocol (TCP)/IP connections to high-throughput, CPU-efficient data streaming via Pleora's iPort IP transport protocol or the GigE Vision stream protocol.
(The latter is a key element of the GigE Vision standard now being finalised by the Automated Imaging Association).
Furthermore, Pleora's new driver will support this broad range of transport protocols while running on almost any GigE NIC.

IP engine speeds CameraLink data
A new high-performance IP engine aims to lower the cost, reduce the complexity and enhance the flexibility of vision systems with large data transfer requirements.
When high-performance protocols are used, the driver will transform the underlying NIC into an ultra-efficient conduit to PC user memory, while consuming almost none of the computer's CPU capacity.
"The multi-protocol support in our new driver will give the vision industry a clean and simple way to migrate systems based on our iPort Connectivity Solution to GigE Vision", said Alain Rivard, Vice-President of Engineering, Pleora Technologies.
"Customers will be able to use one driver on the GigE NIC of their choice to connect to any Ethernet device, including today's iPort IP engines, new-generation iPort engines that support GVSP, and products from other vendors that comply with the standard".
"This driver demonstrates Pleora's commitment to giving the vision industry a cost-effective and seamless path to compliance with the GigE Vision standard, once it is finalised", said George Chamberlain, President, Pleora Technologies.
"It complements innovations on numerous other fronts that we are now implementing to ease the transition for our customers".
The official release of the GigE Vision standard is expected soon, following ratification by member companies on the AIA's GigE Vision Standards Committee.
Pleora is implementing its new driver architecture in two stages.
The first stage, rolled out in September 2005, enables the company's existing iPort High-Performance IP Device Driver to run on Intel's recently launched line of NICs for PCI-Express and Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliance.
PCI-Express is the latest version of the standard PCI computer bus.
It is a two-way switched serial bus that is ideal for imaging applications with real-time, high-throughput requirements.
Intel's current family of PCI-Express NICs supports up to 16 lanes, with each lane transporting data at 2.5Gbit/s.
The full-featured deployment of Pleora's new driver architecture is planned for early 2006.
This implementation will encapsulate and significantly expand the capabilities of the iPort High-Performance IP device driver, as well as Pleora's iPort Universal IP Filter Driver.
